Chico Enterprise-Record Editor Mike Wolcott Mike Wolcott is a fifth-generation native of Tehama County, growing up on a sheep farm homesteaded by his great-great grandfather in the 1870s. He likes to say "The first time I saw my dad castrate a lamb the old-fashioned way, I knew I wanted to be a sportswriter." He had his first byline at age 16 in 1976 and worked as a sports writer and news reporter in newspapers at Corning, Red Bluff and Eureka until 1990, when he moved to the Bay Area. Over the next 23 years he worked as an editor and columnist at newspapers such as the Contra Costa Times and Oakland Tribune, finally achieving a childhood goal by working at the San Francisco Chronicle, where he worked mainly in the sports department for eight years. He moved "home" to the north state in 2013 and decided to invite his old acquaintance David Little to lunch, which ultimately led to his role at the Enterprise-Record. He lives in rural Glenn County with his wife Sherrie, an administrative aide at Chico State. They have two dogs, lots of outdoor cats, and no sheep.

Anita Barker is in her 21st year as the Executive Director of Athletics for Chico State’s 13 intercollegiate athletics programs and has been a member of Chico Noon Rotary since 2005. Despite losing the entire 2020–21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Barker succeeded in keeping the athletic department intact and reinforcing the department-wide concept of “Wildcat Family,” resulting in another successful year in 2021–22. Twelve of Chico State’s 13 NCAA-sanctioned sports programs reached postseason play, culminating with Chico State winning the CCAA Hiegert Commissioner’s Cup—awarded to the conference institution with the best overall athletics performance in a given academic year—for the sixth time in the last 10 years. Barker’s efforts have resulted in several well-deserved individual honors, including National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Division II West Region Athletic Director of the Year awards in 2009 and again in 2019. Anita has worked in the Chico State athletic department since 1990, when she was hired as an assistant athletic trainer. She began working in athletic administration in 1995, when she was appointed the assistant athletic director and senior woman administrator. In 1997, she was promoted to associate athletic director. Anita graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1985 and received her master’s degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1987. She has worked at all three divisions in the NCAA. Anita and her husband Scott, the Wildcats’ head athletic trainer, have two children, Luke and McKena—both former Chico State athletes |

Jenny Humphries been caring for patients at Enloe for 23 years. A lifelong Butte County resident, she was born at Enloe herself.
Jenny wanted to be a flight nurse since the age of nine when she distinctly remembers Enloe FlightCare landing across the street from her family’s home to provide care for a trauma victim. When Jenny was hired at Enloe she discovered that the Chief FlightCare pilot, Marty Marshall, was in fact the same pilot that had landed across the street from her childhood home all those years ago.
Prior to earning her nursing degree, Jenny began work at Enloe in 2000 as an EMT on a ground ambulance. She fell in love with prehospital care and upon completing nursing school was one of the first two new graduate nurses hired into the Neuro-Trauma ICU. After about a year, she transferred to the ER and later began her dream job as a Flight Nurse in 2006.
Jenny earned her master’s in business administration from Chico State in 2008, and credits her many mentors and supporters for giving her an opportunity to serve as the Assistant Nurse Manager in the Emergency Department, followed by the role of Nurse Manager of Nursing Support and Staffing.
In March of 2014, while a patient in Enloe’s Nettleton Mother & Baby Care Center, having just delivered her sweet daughter Emma, Jenny enjoyed a perfect view of the helicopter, watching FlightCare come and go throughout her stay. It was then she decided it was time to make her way back to FlightCare and EMS.
Jenny promoted to Chief Flight Nurse in November of 2014 and has been back “home” with FlightCare and EMS ever since.
Since returning to FlightCare, Jenny completed the Medical Transport Leadership Institute, a 2-year program through which she earned her Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE) certification.
Jenny enjoys teaching other flight nurses’ techniques such as ECMO transports, as well as patient simulation within the helicopter at the National Air Medical Transport Conference. She is an instructor with the Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association, instructing the Transport Provider Advanced Trauma Course.
She is currently Vice President of the California Chapter of the Association of Air Medical Services (Cal-AAMS). Over the last several years, she has taken on responsibility for MedCom, Enloe’s emergency dispatch center, as well as clinical oversight of ground ambulance operations.
After working alongside Marty Marshal for many years, Jenny was named Marty’s successor as EMS Director upon his retirement. In addition to her director role, Jenny remains Enloe’s Chief Flight Nurse.
When not at work, she enjoys spending time with daughter Emma, their chocolate lab Coco, and fishing any chance she gets.
